The Electric Bicycle has finally come of age.  During these days of high fuel prices, electric bikes have emerged as one of the most practical forms of local transportation available.  Recharging of an electric bike costs only pennies a day.  Recent changes to state and federal laws have defined and reclassified electric bikes.  Electric Bicycles that are powered by a motor of 750 watts or less and having a top speed that does not exceed 20 mph are considered a bicycle, and not a motor vehicle.  Because of these changes, electric bike riders are exempt from insurance, registration and driver's license requirements that are imposed on motor vehicles.   Some states do have minimum age restrictions for operator of electric bicycles. The many advantages offered by electric bicycles, as well as the improvements in electric bicycle technology, are certain to make them very popular.
